   The “enemy” is Satan. In the Bible, he is always referred to as a person or being, while sin is referred to as a choice. It is somewhat synonymous with evil, and is an inanimate object the same as love or peace.

   PS – What kind of person “demands” comments on his blog?

   Holy Crap?! Did Ryan Neal just comment? and yes, he’s right, “not god” is the appropriate answer lol!

   I haven’t really thought about it too thoroughly, but I have been thinking about it and here are my thoughts:

   The devil, for whatever he is, is our enemy. (1 Pet. 5.8) He seeks to pull us away from the one true God and towards the innumerable other things we selfishly love to worship.

   However, it doesn’t appear that the devil is God’s personal enemy, but rather the opponent to His people. For the devil to be God’s personal nemesis sets up a system of dualism confirmed nowhere in Scripture. Rather, God is King and Christ is victor over all of our enemies (the devil, sin, and particularly death). God never needed to “beat” the devil, but we needed Him to beat the devil for us.

   However, God does have an enemy and James 4:4 tells us who it is,

   “You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility towards God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

   So, the answer? The unrepentant sinner is God’s enemy. Not sin, not the devil, for Christ has defeated those, but the one in whom sin still lives and reigns is the opponent.

   How amazing is grace?! God reconciled His enemies (us) to Himself through the blood of the cross. (Colossians 1:21-22) What a big deal!

    sin can’t be the enemy because didn’t we establish that sin is the privation of good? and if sin is merely the privation of good – then sin is nothing.

    but we know that sin is something – so the something that sin is… is nothing.

    (does anyone remember this conversation)

    and since half of the class doesn’t believe the (big, bad, scary, pitch-fork wielding) devil – i am going to agree with bailey.
